Phnom Penh: The “10,000 Steps for 10,000 Students” running event, held across five provinces on May 24, attracted strong participation from athletes, students, and the general public, with more than 25,000 participants in total. Meanwhile, the Phnom Penh edition of the event is scheduled to take place on May 31, continuing the same shared mission.

The event was jointly organized by the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport, the National Olympic Committee of Cambodia, the Preah Srey Icanavarman Museum of Economy and Money (SOSORO Museum), and Amret Microfinance Institution, with the aim of promoting a reading culture and enhancing public understanding of Cambodian monetary history.

On May 24, the event was organized at five locations, including Veal Ko Riverfront in Svay Rieng City, Takeo Provincial Town, New Beach in Kampot Province, Techo Thipadei Square in Stung Treng Province, and the Independence Monument in Battambang Province.

Participation across the five provinces exceeded organizers’ expectations, as many members of the public, including fitness enthusiasts who had not pre-registered, also joined the run.

Among the five provinces, Stung Treng recorded the highest participation, with a total of 14,600 runners, according to provincial administration figures. This was followed by Battambang, with nearly 5,000 participants, while Kampot recorded more than 2,000 runners. Meanwhile, Takeo welcomed around 800 participants, and Svay Rieng saw approximately 700 participants.

The “10,000 Steps for 10,000 Students” event will conclude with its final run at Koh Pich (Diamond Island), Phnom Penh, on May 31.
