Siem Reap, June 21, 2025: Mr. Tek Sokheng, Regional Director of the Amret Microfinance Institution in Siem Reap, recently conveyed an important message to young people, stating that “writing is even more important than reading.” He encouraged youth to focus on writing as a foundation for enhancing their skills, ultimately leading to the creation and publication of their own books.
On June 21, the Young Writers’ Club held a training session at the Memoir Hotel on National Road 6 in Siem Reap, where 12 participants learned valuable skills related to writing, book production, and publishing.
Amret directly supported this initiative, which aims to improve the writing skills of young people. The training was attended by young individuals passionate about reading and writing.
Mr. Tek Sokheng emphasized that writing is crucial for knowledge exchange and creativity. He encouraged young people to strive to become authors, thereby contributing to the preservation and advancement of education and the culture of reading.
Participants had the opportunity to learn from experts in news writing and book publishing, including Mr. Ky Soklim, with nearly 30 years of journalism experience; Mr. Leang Delux, a book author and director of digital journalism at ThmeyThmey; Mr. Pierre Gillette, a journalist and author with over 40 years of experience; Mr. Alan Kirk, also a journalist for over 40 years; Mr. Sonny Krishnan, a journalist and writing expert in various fields; and Ms. Michelle Vachon, a reportage journalist
The training covered various aspects of writing, including novels, history, science, interviews, research, and the publishing process. Spanning six months, the course provided skills in book design, title selection, composition, and publishing.
This program, organized by the Young Writers' Club, received support from ThmeyThmey, AEA Action, and the Siem Reap Tourism Association, with sponsorship from Amret. Amret encourages all young people who have a passion for reading and writing to participate in this training course, contributing positively to society.
